This is another one of the entries that Truman showed at the fair. Grace and Anna Mae made a stepping stone too. We have supplies for Cole when he gets back – don’t worry.

The stepping-stones were made with a kit. We found everything we needed at Hobby Lobby.

I put Tim in charge of this one – I thought the kids could use some Dad time doing something other than sports. It was a hit and will be great in the yard. I love that I have a plan for all the projects this year…

We have been feeling crafty this week…

Getting ready for the county fair will do that to you.

We did this when it was really warm outside… I think that made it even more “melty.”

Blue ribbon #1 – for Truman and cool art work to hang in the basement for me – Yea!

I came up with a fun idea for the butterfly garden — a butterfly bath. After reading that butterflies like to drink water and land on something shallow – I thought this would be a cool addition what will soon bloom into a colorful corner of my back yard.

I used a platter and tea cups that I found at a thrift shop. Bought the planter and the hardware for almost nothing and talked Tim into pulling out the hammer drill to make it easy.

I have been letting the rain fill it up – but if I water the flowers I give it a little splash as well. I read that the butterflies also like a little sugar in their water, but that sounds like one more thing I have to worry about – so this little bit of whimzy and plain water will have to do for now…

If I get a photo of a butterfly on the bath – I’ll be sure to share. There have been a few visits, but I’m not quite fast enough with the camera.

The big kids stayed at Mama and Papa’s house last night, so Truman and Grace requested a play date. Maggie is Truman’s friend, but Grace just adores her, so we were so happy she could come over for the morning.

The kids had a blast digging in the sandbox and playing with the wheel barrel. After a long rainy vacation it was great to see them outside enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. I had fun taking photos in the back yard and decided they were good enough to frame.

It didn’t take long before we had a craft project in the works complete with confetti, glue, and glitter!

To make fun photo frames we used…

a frame with a mat

glue

glitter

confetti

magnets

hot glue gun

I uploaded the photos to Walgreen and scheduled a 30 minute pick-up. Then I cut the kids loose to glue the confetti to the mats.  When they were happy with their work we brushed the mats with glue one more time and sprinkled glitter over a bowel (that kept clean-up to a minimum). I hot glued the magnets to the back of the frames (be sure to level the magnets so they hang straight) and then ran to Walgreen to pick up the photos. The kids had lunch and by the time I came back everything was dry enough to put together.

Maggie took hers home, and Truman and Grace’s photos have a place of honor in the kitchen.

This was an easy project and lots of fun. Please send photos if you give it a try – we would love to see yours!
