It’s spring cleaning season… I am pulling my favorite housekeeping book off the shelf for this weeks review. Home Comforts is a dictionary… no – it’s an encyclopedia… heck – it’s a bible of housekeeping – honestly, it’s that good.
If you want to know how to mend a book, make a bed, launder tricky items or clean the handprints off your staircase walls you need to go no further than this book – sub titled The Art & Science of Keeping House.
The thing I really love however, is that the author makes the redundant, tedious, and often brain numbing job of house keeping sound like the sweetest, most lovely way you could possibly spend your day. As she tells the story of her own quest to make a house a home – I find myself inspired to rise up to the same challenge with grace and pride.
In fact, I enjoy reading this book about cleaning, and mending, and organizing so much that I easily run out of time and don’t get to the actual doing part of the job. However, after years of referencing I am still finding useful information, ideas, and an enjoyable way to procrastinate a little.
This book would make a wonderful present for a young graduate moving off on their own, a wedding or shower gift, or even a unique book for a new parent. More importantly, if you are looking for motivation to get your spring cleaning going or if you would rather curl up with a glass of ice tea and read a book that makes the job of the modern homemaker sound vastly important and awfully pleasing than it might be worth giving Home Comforts a place on you bookshelf as well.
Let me know what you think and as always – Happy reading!
