Conversation with Truman this morning…
“Is this a train shirt?”
“Yes it’s one of your train shirts.”
“Can I ride this train?”
“Maybe. Where do you want to go?”
“Just home. I just want to go home.”
“Truman, you are home.”
“No I not. I want to go home – I just do.”
“Who lives at your home?’
“Dogs.”
“There are dogs at your home? Who feeds them when you aren’t there?”
“Nash.”
(Ahhhh – Mom is catching on…)
“Nash feeds your dogs? What are there names?”
“Rara and Jane.”
“Truman, what else is at your home? Is there a lake?”
“Yes, there is and crackers.”
“Crackers? Are there other people there?
“Just Grandma and Papa. You can come, but not ‘ColeanAnna’.”
“I can ride the train home with you?”
“Yes, I want to. I just want to go home with you.”
“How come you don’t want to live here?”
“Oh, because. I just want to have breakfast with Papa and Mama.”
“Sorry Truman, we have to take the kids to school, but we can go visit Papa and Mama on Wednesday. It’s his birthday, so I am going to make him a cake.”
(Tru takes off and I hear….)
“Cole, I’m going to live at Papa’s and eat cake, but not you.”
“Truman, your nuts.”
“No, I not nuts. I like cake.”
I guess I’m off the hook then. Truman can live with mom and dad and take care of them instead of me. I think I was close to his age when I promised I’d never leave them.
